Book Review:
Don't Let Me Fall by Kelsie Rae I don't well it's not necessary that I do not listen to all your books it was the fact that I'd never listen to an audiobook and I wasn't interested in this entire books like first grade to like maybe like third or fourth grade we stopped to do this thing in my school during computer time where we'd have to do this thing called tumbleBooks
I don't know if you guys have ever been kind of tempo books like are you guys in that area with me I don't know
I don't know if I was only my school but we used to do tumble books and that was where we had to read these picture books okay maybe wasn't to fourth grade because
I wasn't really no picture book in 4th grade but you get the idea we had to read these picture books online and that would basically just read it out loud to us so to me that was an audio book someone just reading the picture out loud to me and I always hit a tumble booth
I just want to read the book myself so basically I thought that's exactly what listening to an audio book would be like just like someone monotone reading this book out loud to me and I was proven wrong actually so for this video
I have five tips for people who were uncomfortable trying our audio books who have tried and kind of failed to get into them or who just don't think they will like audiobooks but want to get them a try basically and then after
I give you guys my five tips I'm also gonna talk about three audiobook apps that I've tried and the pros and cons of each one and which one I like the most so my first tip is to start off with the genre or a book that is hard for you to get into on your own so for my personal experience
I started off my audiobook journey with the book never night by Jay Kristoff so I originally tried to read this book physically because like I said I didn't think I would like audiobooks especially for something like
this I'm like there's absolutely no way like I need to read this in my own head and collect my thoughts in my own way but these footnotes shut up and said hold on says I don't know if you're ready and they were absolutely right I was not ready so basically if you don't know the footnote is
I'll show you ooh okay side note don't look at those annotations they're absolutely stunning um but anyway if you don't know if but notice I'll show you a quick one it's not hard to find in this book because
they're on every other page literally um this down here is like a footnote so basically they'll be like an asterisk within the normal paragraph and that basically tells you to go read the footnote which is right here and then just
go back to reading the regular paragraph and let me tell you as someone who hadn't really read footnotes outside of academic settings um it was kind of hard like especially something like if you're like a limit of
a battle and you put a footnote and then I have to go back and get myself back into the battle like it just messes up my mood if you know what I'm saying like I was in the mood for battle and then we went to a historic fad and then I was back to battle you know what I mean like it's not working and
so I decided to try the audio book I don't know if anyone told me to try an audio book or I was just like I need help and picked up the audio book I picked it up on audible and I just started listening to the audio book
as I read and it really helped me because in the audio book they incorporate that footnotes so seamlessly that they seem like they're a part of the regular paragraph it really helped me enjoyed the story way more
I ended up getting never night four or five stars because of that and it memorized that in order to actually get into audio books I had to read something that I couldn't read on my own at first just to kind of get comfortable with listening to an audio book and kind of meeting it like
I had to need the audio book in order to try like this actually seems so dramatic but I did I I need it to meet the audio book in order for me to actually experience the books I feels like it could be like some type of life advice right
so my next step was getting into audiobooks kind of coincides with the first one night as you're starting off with them unfamiliar book or whatever tries to read along with the audiobook as you listen so read physically and listen to the audiobook at the same time because you're mixing a foreign
experience especially if you've ever tried an audiobook before you've never gotten through an audiobook before you're mixing a foreign experience with something that's familiar and that way it just makes you feel a
bit more comfortable it's very easy for your mind to wonder if you're reading an audiobook and you're not doing anything else so for someone who has new to audiobooks the best thing for you to do is read along with it until you get comfortable and then maybe you can do something else
which I have another tip for that so we're gonna see that later in the video okay so this kind of goes what tip number two I tried to relate them in a way if you guys can see what I'm doing you see what I'm doing here I'm trying um so this goes except number two in a way that if you read along with the book as you go we all have different reading speeds and
I'm pretty sure well maybe there's someone out there who has a one-time reading speed as the audiobook but for me when I was into one time speed it sounds like the person is literally speaking in slow motion like it's so slow I can't do it so when you're reading along with the book
you want to increase that reading speed as you get more comfortable because it's gonna feel like the book is taking forever like audiobooks are already like 16 hours like eight hours with two times speed so if you're listening to it and a one time speed you're literally sitting there for 16 hours and
I don't know maybe you're patient like that but I am NOT and I cannot just sit there and listen to the same thing for 16 hours especially if I'm reading along with it because my reading speed is just way faster than one time so you need to increase that reading speed as you read along
so you can just get more comfortable with the experience and it can be a better experience for you or otherwise I feel like you will just get bored or you'll feel uncomfortable while trying to read along with the audiobook because you're gonna be reading way faster than that audiobook
so I kind of already mentioned this tip a little bit and I said I was coming back to it here I am coming back to it as you get more comfortable listening to audiobooks you should move to the point where you don't have to read along with it so for example the last audiobook
I think I listened to was hunting Prince Dracula and that was maybe my eighth or ninth audiobooks that I've ever listened to so I was very comfortable with audiobooks by that point so I realized as I was listening to the audiobook in reading along I was getting a bit bored just because
I was so used to experience that I didn't necessarily need to read along with the book at this point I started doing like mindless games and - tasks to keep my mind on the audiobook but also not keep me bored of just sitting there like
I said I played 2048 I also play Cooking Mama I like all these games are sold I play cooking mama sent me from Sammy reads put me onto that um and yeah I don't wanna play anything else sometimes
I play the snapchat games with my group chat because those are lovely addicting and so fun but those you'll get really invested into it so where you ignore the audiobook so I try to avoid listen to audiobooks when we play this because they're they're too fun like I don't know who makes those games on snapchat but they are literally addicting if you have it's not a group chat you need to go try them they're so fun but anyway we've come upon my last tip and that's tip number five and that is to try an interactive audio book
I think you should start off with something that's unfamiliar or something that's hard for you to read by yourself but I don't think you should always rely on an audio book for something that is hard for you to read because
I feel like it kind of start to make the experience negative just because you're always relying on the audio but because you can't understand the physical book you know what I mean
so I feel like after you start getting comfortable with the ID books from reading something that you had to have the audio book for you can start getting into liking our books for the mirror experience of listening to an audio book so when I put the diviners it was a 600-page book probably a little bit over 600 actually it was very big and I was in college so
I was like I'm not gonna have always had the time to just sit here and just listen to the book you know what
I mean so I was like why don't I just try out the audio book Long's are fun there's ghosts things like that it's a very fun experience and I actually absolutely loved I think I really the diviner is higher than where
I would have rated it if I just read it physically because of the experience in the audio but I hear the four stars I'm it's a really good book period but the audiobook of really just makes your experience
so I think reading something like that to where you won't have like people singing the songs you won't have like the little Nursery Rhymes and things like that you won't have sound effects when you read the book by yourself about having them when you listen to the audio but kind of makes you appreciate the audiobook experience so whimsical atmospheric books
I feel like audiobooks with the full cast I'm pretty sure gonna have to research that before you get the audiobook I don't know six of crows are arising are full cast but you know books like that that have a lot of characters and a lot of voices that are given full cast gives you a more interactive experience than just reading it by yourself for me when I read books
I give all the characters the same voice my voice so listening to an audiobook will help you have the characters as distinct people in your head and maybe it will help you even get to know the characters more by having those different voices and my experience with that
I don't think I've ever listened to it a full cast but I listened to clockwork princess and clockwork Prince as audiobooks and in clockwork Prince didn't have the two voices but clockwork Prince has had two distinct voices for Tessa and we'll about listening to the audiobook and hearing the emotion that the author puts into it or the narrator hearing the emotion that the narrator puts in it makes me appreciate the book so much more and appreciate the characters so much more just because when
I read books I just read their things in monotone especially it's something like a love confession just because I'm not gonna say half that stuff out loud so when I read it out in a book I can't put emotion into it because I can't relate I'm not saying that out loud to anybody and I think that's why
I rated the last two books so highly just because I was really given all of the fields listening to the books I would have gotten if I read it myself so those are the five tips that I had for getting into audiobooks and now
I'm gonna go into my experience with the three different apps that I've listened to audio books on so the very first app that I've listened to audio books on which I already said was audible and audible I really enjoyed
I did end up cancelling my experience my favorite parts about audible were the fact that you can go up to 3.5 times speed or an audible and I have to listen to it on three times speed sometimes 3.5 speed when
I'm reading along with the audiobook because of how fast I read physically the other audiobook apps that I've tried only go up to two times speed I also really like the badges aspect of audible audible has these badges I'll put on the screen I'll kind of go through actually feel like a competition and it becomes really really fun and you want to keep reading you want to mat get all your badges so for that it's kind of fun because it starts to feel like a game
I really like that aspect of audible but the thing that made me care semi audible account was the fact that it's 14.95 a month for one credit and you're only listening to one audiobook and me and my broke college student asked just can't afford it I just cannot justify spending 15 dollars a month just to listen to one audio book something that I cannot even hold physically in my hands that's why audibles on top for everything except for that cost and that's why
I don't have audible but if you have the money to afford audible I would say just go ahead and get audible but if you don't you think that 1495 there's a bit too much just for one book a month like me then
I think my second option for you would be better and that is script script I think is around eight dollars a month for unlimited access now for me that access has been unlimited every month
