Book Review:

Invent and Wander by Walter Isaacson, this is kind of a cheap book because it's technically just a compilation of every amazon shareholder letter that bezos put out from the inception of amazon until now and you can probably find it online

But it's compiled here and it's pretty remarkable just to read through the year by year amazon's mindset and where their attention is and what they're focused on

For example in the initial shareholder letter from 97 or whatever it was bezos talks about how amazon was always going to take a long-term vision and it's not going to be about quarter-to-quarter revenue

If that's not your cup of tea as an investor maybe amazon's not the right company for you and every single year no matter what year it is 2002 2008 2015 whatever

At the end of that current year's shareholder letter he attaches the original shareholder letter saying this is what we're all about so it's pretty cool to see that

He talks about amazon's whole thing is they're just their whole focus is is on the consumer he believes bezos believes that people consumers are smart and that they are going to find what's best for them

So at amazon they're always trying to figure out what's best for the consumer before the consumer even asks for it

So as an obvious example amazon knows that people like low prices so before people even request lower prices amazon wants to be able to lower prices for consumers believing that consumers will then flock to lower prices and to run

With that example what lower prices do is that increases your revenue which allows your company to grow more and when your company grows more then you

Have greater economy of scale which means that things your operation costs are now lower which means you can then lower prices even more and it's a circle it repeats

So that's pretty cool to read um amazon is not scared of disrupting themselves he talked about uh when they brought in third-party sellers people thought that that was gonna hurt amazon

But now obviously they've been able to adjust and third-party selling is gigantic and it creates even more revenue for the company similarly when they started putting uh comparable options on each product that was being listed people thought

It's gonna take away from whatever product the consumer is looking at no so they're always looking at ways to improve and disrupt and do things that they think are going to benefit the customer before the customer even requests

It so it's pretty cool it's really awesome you should totally check it out if you're just interested in seeing how this behemoth of a company has kind of kept their focus and what they've been working on over the last 25 years and one thing he touches on

At the end that's just really cool is like with blue origin his space initiative he talks about how like amazon was amazon didn't create the internet the internet existed and amazon was able to take advantage of that and build the ecosystem that amazon

The business is and similarly he believes that the future of humanity is interplanetary and there needs to be space stations and all sorts of things that exist outside of our planet for us

As humanity to be able to evolve and that it's our current generation's obligation not to figure all of that out but to at least make it accessible

So that means that it's our generation's job to make the trip to outer space quicker easier more affordable and overall just more accessible and convenient

So that the next generation of entrepreneurs can then build on the platform of interplanetary and space stations because they'll have the access of getting to outer space and that will fuel the next generation of entrepreneurs that build stuff in space

So that just kind of idea that he talks about at the end of the book is an interesting insight to his macro vision on everything and it's really cool you should check this out.
