Demon in the Wood Graphic by Leigh Bardugo this story was included at the back of any books or something if you know let us know which edition i own the box set of shadow and bone but i don't have it at
This location so i can't check it i wouldn't be surprised if i missed it because i never pay attention to what's at the back of the books i didn't realize there was a map in the box until i got to the last book so i'm not the most reliable source on that but for
This time in history the grisha is not welcome anywhere particularly the darkling who goes by the name eric in the book and his mother bhagra are outsiders because of their unique abilities
As you know the darkling and bhagra are shadow summoners being summoners they are technically part of the ethereal kai order it's a unique grisha ability where they can control darkness but also comes with a special super ability called the cuts which is
where they can focus the darkness into a slice and cut through their target they can cut through objects or people but more important than that the dark link himself is an amplifier and it is incredibly difficult to find amplifiers let alone powerful ones so the way amplifiers work is you need to kill the amplifier and wear the bones the darkling is just a young boy at
this point he doesn't have complete control over his power and always in danger of people finding out that he's an amplifier because the grisha is already in danger and they're looking for ways to be stronger they live in hidden camps away from regular people the vietnam witch hunters are just being formed around this time we don't exactly know when
this takes place but the fold is at least 400 years old since the darkling created the fold this is more than 400 years ago in this story it is winter and they get to a camp where they can stay over the winter and the darkling is very excited
this is a boy who has been lonely he doesn't have friends because they never stay anywhere along but also they can't trust anyone so one day the darkling meets a girl anika and her sister sylvie they bond a bit sylvie is fascinated by his darkness powers
then at some point the chief's son lev comes and starts bullying them but the darkling interferes and saves them in the process anika realizes he's an amplifier but she's like don't worry i won't tell because you saved us from them then one like she's like oh do you want to go swimming tonight and the dark thing is i can't my mom wouldn't let me but like he's a 13 year old boy he is alone he's finally making friends
this is a cute girl so he slips out at night to join her and of course as a trap her family is one of the weaker ones her sister doesn't have gracia powers she is a tied maker and having an amplifier can help her a lot so she tries to bash the darkling skull with a rock but then lev arrives liv realizes
that darkling is an amplifier and he is like oh then i want it to then there's a huge fight where finally the darkling is able to use the cut for the first time obviously cuts through both of those idiots like butter so they're dead but then like he's smart so he cuts himself a bit too makes it look like the regular village people attacked them and killed the other two and whatever
so the grusha camp goes to the village and kills everyone for revenge yikes bogre is like that's fine i would kill everyone to protect you you did the right thing by lying otherwise we'd be the ones on the pyre big oof so after going through this and seeing how the suppression affects the grisha the darkling vows to make the world safe for the grisha one day
this story is that seed of how the darkling sets out to form the second army of raqqa one day now we know that this takes many years the darkling's grandfather is sankt ilya morozova by the way one of the most famous saints who created the three super powerful amplifiers we see in the shadow and bone trilogy guess who else is moroso's descendant that's right malian or red set so they're distantly related to each other after
this story we get another glimpse at the darkling in the short story when water sank fire he makes an appearance as a serious apprentice there it's not confirmed 100 percent but it is him and that story he actually meets his half-sister his sister is a seal drawer which is a mermaid in the crucial world so bagra is her mother as well but her father is a sildraher her name is oola
she's half witch half seal drawer that is an adventure program we don't know anything about yet but maybe we'll find out later actually you know what i think it would be best to have a whole video about that story because it is quite interesting add.
