Book Review:

Nelson Demille's The Maze is a heart-pounding tale of a man trapped in an intricate maze. In the midst of this horror story, the maze stands as metaphor for life's choices, hardships and decisions.

Where should you go in life? Should you take the easy way out or should you work hard to reach your goal? As with any metaphor, understanding the story's message requires a deeper look.

The story begins with Dr. Isham Van Holden explaining his latest creation- a maze. He shows off his creation by manipulating people through the maze to teach them a lesson.

He then devises a plan to get himself out of the maze and into his mansion. However, he gets lost in the maze and is unable to find his way out. To make matters worse, he becomes sick from eating too much candy while exploring the maze. This sets the stage for an unsettling tale of terror and self-discovery.

As with any metaphor, understanding the story's message involves looking at life from different perspectives. The maze - and Dr. Van Holden's mansion - seem like an idyllic place at first glance.

However, upon further inspection, it becomes clear that this is not a place for the weak- or for those who would question their place in life. In this metaphor, life can be interpreted as a complex and twisty maze.

It has many paths you can take, and it is up to you which path you choose. On one path is wealth and prestige; on another is freedom and adventure. You will encounter many obstacles along each path; but ultimately, it is up to you which path you take.

The metaphor also suggests that it is impossible to understand or navigate life without guidance; otherwise, you may wind up lost in the maze- and unable to find your way out.

In Dr. Van Holden's case, he felt so confident exploring an intricate piece of candyland that he failed to carry his flashlight with him. By doing so, he wound up trapped in darkness and unable to find his way out of the maze.

It was only after he became sick from eating too much candy that he was able to escape back to his mansion. This suggests that anyone can navigate life's challenges; but only those who are willing to face them head on will succeed in their goals.

Finally, some have suggested that the solution to any metaphorical puzzle lies within oneself- based on one's personal strengths and weaknesses. In this case, Dr Alexander Isham proved himself weak by eating too much candy while trapped in the maze.

As a result of this weakness, he could not find his way out of the maze and wound up sick as a result.

However, this also makes him a good man because it shows he recognizes his weakness and will work hard to overcome it through self-improvement. In this way, understanding one's character is key to solving any metaphorical puzzle in life.

Based on these thoughts about mazes and how they apply to life choices, it seems best if someone climb out of Nelson Demille's metaphorical hellfire pit unaided by candy or helpfully guided by a wise old man with a flashlight!
