Book Review:

Finding the mother tree by suzanne simard and she is a tree scientist she grew up around trees her family was a logging family and she has discovered some really amazing things about trees that I wanted to share with you today

If you go into a forest and you find the oldest tallest grandest tree chances are that is the mother tree and you may be surprised to learn that that tree actually is kind of the nurturer and the protector of the other trees

You may say oh my gosh how is that possible how can a tree protect other trees they're they're standing still in the dirt with their roots and they can't move

How can that possibly happen you may have noticed this under the ground under the trees is actually this network

I believe they're white fibers like a mesh like a net all completely throughout the forest floor and this network is actually a form of fungus and the name of the fungus I've had to write it down

It's in latin arbuscular micro mecorazole network and I hope I pronounce that right the emits chemicals that are similar to the neurotransmitters in our brain and it's connected to the trees and the trees can send their nutrients through

This network they can send water through this network and as the author is suggesting that there's a certain legacy that can be transmitted through this network

It's possible that this might be a mother tree very very tall one of the tallest among the other trees and here is a baby or teenager maybe tree there's a baby tree and um yeah mother tree nourishing all the offspring just amazing something that I found interesting particularly interesting as

If that wasn't interesting enough that when a tree is in danger it will dump toxins if they feel there's some kind of danger around I'm not sure that it's designed to defend against humans I'm not sure

There's anything they could do about that but in terms of invasive species invasive plants possibly animals they will dump toxins out through their water system out through this network of fungus from a literary point of

The author has matched up this information about the trees with her life it's almost like a little novels going on next to these scientific facts the author herself ended up having cancer which she survived but she as

She was going through the treatments for cancer she was thinking about herself as a mother and that her children would survive her and so she was comparing that really to the mother tree concept and kind of

I don't know sympathizing with it and and just it was of an interesting contrast what she did comparing her own feelings as a mother with what would be a mother tree in the days when

She was part of a logging family they were very conscious of replanting trees of making sure that the land would re grow again and where it was more caring towards the land as opposed to some some parts of the world and some corporations or companies that are not as conscious so a good part of the book was a call to be more conscious about what we're doing with trees as you know

I have always loved the forest the minute I enter in the forest and maybe this happens with you too you immediately feel a little more relaxed the trees you can feel this wonderful energy in the summertime it's nice and cool or there's just beautiful things to see.

 THANK YOU SO MUCH
