Book Review:
Health is wealth. You’ve probably heard this sentence many times before, yet unfortunately, we only realize the true essence of this sentence when our health is compromised.
Anything in life is possible only if you are healthy. Tony Robbins wrote the book Life Force to empower people in a way that they are able to take control of their health and live a life with the optimal level of strength and vitality.
At its core, this book signifies the importance of health and technological advancement in the health industry. It focuses more on how the world is advancing rapidly towards a future filled with countless possibilities and hope.
A wealth of information is available in the book, but I only took note of the ones that I thought could be helpful to you in the comfort of your home without any expenses.
The focus of this video summary is on the cost-effective, daily life practical advice provided by Robbins on longevity lifestyle, the impact of nutrition and exercise, quality sleep, and the power of mindset, as all these greatly impact our daily lives.
If you are interested to buy and reading the whole book, which I recommend you, you can find the link in the description below. For now, here are the main points of the book. Before I share any practical advice, here is a great psychological lesson from the book.
If you understand this, you will have the power to achieve anything in life. According to Robbins, our lives are controlled by three decisions. Firstly, we decide what to focus on, it determines what we experience in life.
We can either choose to focus on the bad things or we can turn our attention toward all the blessings. Wherever our focus goes, our energy flows in the same direction. The next decision our brain makes is to decide what it means.
It determines what we feel. For example, someone can look at the pandemic as God's way of punishing everyone, as a challenge that we must overcome, or as a blessing.
Lastly, we decide what we are going to do about it, it determines your results. This last decision leads your life. Either you do something about your current situation or you accept it as it is, the decision is in your hands.
Our brains have the power to make us sick or healthy, miserable or happy, fearful or faithful, and successful or failure. Let me repeat that again in case you missed it.
Regardless of what happens to us, our brains have the power to make us sick or healthy, miserable or happy, fearful or faithful, and successful or failure. Now, with this in mind, let me share some practical advice with you.
Coming to the basics, making a few simple lifestyle changes can dramatically improve our health, and have a lasting effect on our vitality. The building blocks of our wellbeing can be classified as nutrition, fasting, exercise, and sleep.
Let us start with nutrition first. Wellbeing with Nutrition. Firstly, our diets have a huge impact on our health therefore the first step would be to get educated on what you are putting in your body. A good start could be by replacing “bad” carbs with “good” carbs.
The good carbs are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, chickpeas, lentils, tofu, and soy milk.
These carbs are low in fat, high in fiber, and make you feel full for a longer period of time. Whether the protein in your diet comes from plants or animal products, it is important since animal-based protein leads to mortality.
The reason why what you eat is important is because the way you look on the outside represents your physical and mental health. People suffering from obesity understand this better.
Losing weight is a growing concern in youth and adults today. For those who need it, a new development in science has found that by freezing your body fat you can get rid of stubborn fat. This method is called CoolSculpting.
It weakens your fat storage cells by exposing them to extreme cold. The fat cells die, and your body then naturally eliminates the waste through the urine. If you are suffering from obesity, this could be a miracle for you.
The next one is well-being with fasting. Fasting has rejuvenating qualities. It can be easy to implement in your daily life. For starters, it is easy to skip breakfast and fast for 16 hours a day with an 8-hour eating window.
If you eat dinner before 8 in the evening and don’t eat anything else until 12 noon of the next day, you can easily fast for 16 hours. This type of fasting is called intermittent fasting. And the best part is while fasting, you can drink water because it doesn't affect blood sugar or insulin levels.
Fasting does not only help in weight loss but also helps you live a long and healthy life. The next building block is well-being with exercise. Optimizing your energy and performance by building muscle mass and bone density, enhancing mobility, and increasing endurance is vital for a healthy life.
All this is possible only with the exercise. The fastest and most efficient way of gaining muscle and bone strength is by holding the maximum amount of weight in a static position.
The strength of your bones can determine how big your muscle can get. Also, focusing on a minimum of four exercises; squats, lunges, push-ups, and planks, would help you increase your muscle power.
Even if you do a ten-minute workout every day consistently, you’ll become addicted to the good feeling that pushing yourself and increasing your strength creates. Exercising daily, will also help you be more energetic and fully enjoy life.
Wellbeing with Sleep: According to Robbins, sleep is the fourth pillar of your health. It affects your health, vitality, and immune system. Therefore, having a fixed sleeping schedule is very important for your life.
Here are a few practical steps that you can take to ensure good quality sleep in your life. First, focus on giving yourself a long enough “sleep opportunity” each night. Ideally, it is recommended to sleep for at least 8 hours.
While having enough sleep, also try to improve the quality of your sleep, not just the quantity. Assess whether or not you are getting enough sleep: ask yourself questions like if your alarm didn’t go off in the morning, would you sleep past it?
If the answer is yes, you are probably not getting enough sleep. Set yourself a regular bedtime and wake-up time. This will train your circadian rhythm. And finally, put your phone down before going to bed.
One way to ensure small healthy changes is to make a weekly checklist. Choose anything that you can easily accommodate in your routine like drinking half your body weight in ounces of water every day.
Here is how to find the right amount of water for your body. Divide your weight in pounds by two and drink that amount of water in ounces each day.
For example, if you weigh 180 pounds (around 82 KG), you will need to drink 90 ounces (around 3 liters) of water every day.
Similarly, make a routine of avoiding processed carbs, low quality processed meats, consuming meals for 8 to 12 hours and fasting for 12-16 hours every day, improving your sleep by going to bed and waking up at about the same times each day, training your brain with daily breathing exercises and meditation 5–20 minutes each day, and exercising 20 to 30 minutes a day.
There is no pressure of bringing all these new changes into your life at once. Start small and slow. You can always add more as your progress.
Remember, sustainability is more important than quantity. Whatever it is that you chose, write it down and make a commitment to yourself to complete it.
Once you internalize the concept that the biggest threats to your health are largely preventable, making these changes becomes easier.
This book explores different ways in which you can be the master of your health and your future; how we can change the curse of our lives by making small daily changes in our daily routine.
And most importantly, it signifies the importance of our mindset and the power of decision-making. At the end of the day, the only thing that will bring a change in you that you want to see is yourself, so decide and take action today.
It’s in those moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. So choose wisely and chose right NOW. Your future awaits and only you have the power to make it worthwhile.
