Book Review:

The Fortunes of Jaded Women by Carolyn Huynh the family only has daughters never sons and they can never find happiness or love the older generations mostly stubborn busybodies

the younger generations just stumbling through the present but then there's a powerful vietnamese psychic who might be real who predicts that in the span of one year

this family will experience someone's death someone's pregnancy and someone's marriage but whose and of course this causes so much chaos stephanie kim uh carolyn's agent had seen a request on my editor's

wish list my request was that i wanted books about vietnamese people that go beyond the vietnam war and that is to say as much as i love and admire works that movingly and frankly speak about

this significant event in our history i wanted more stories about our vietnamese community now about the mothers who left vietnam to create a whole new life from scratch and are just now figuring out who

they are i wanted novels about daughters who are surrounded by their mother's histories and are struggling to figure out what they want in family career and love i wanted stories that wrestled with that gap that just forms because generations have gone through different things.

Still, ultimately i wanted a vietnamese american novel that was touching funny and ultimately healing.

Stephanie gave me this book from the very first line i was just hooked and this was during the pandemic so things weren't going so well i was finding it hard to concentrate everything was just making me sad.

Still, this one yes it makes you sad but it makes you just laugh out loud it makes you cry it makes you want to hug your mother your sisters your cousins your aunts everyone really and your family who you have taken for granted for so long.
