Book review:

An Act of Foul Play takes one of my favorite investigative pairings into the world of theatre, and although the pace of the story drags a bit at times, it's still great to see Lady Hardcastle and Florence Armstrong work their usual magic.

There was a cure. , This time around, readers are also introduced to Flo's twin sister, Gwyneth, and she makes an enjoyable addition in a humorous way.

Hardcastle and Armstrong bring down Inspector Wyatt's bluff, while Gwyneth proves to be a vital part of solving the mystery of who stole the booze from the local pub, the Dog and Duck.

As the series progressed, writer T.E. Kinsey not only charmed me with his characters and his wonderful dialogue, he also gave me a glimpse into different aspects of English life in the 1910s.

This is a series that never fails to bring a smile to my face, and I've added a word to my vocabulary after reading An Act of Foul Play. I think most of us titillate ourselves before leaving the house to go to work or go shopping. I didn't know that's what I was doing.

Anyone who enjoys light-hearted historical mysteries really needs to get acquainted with Lady Hardcastle and her "lady's maid, part-time detective and full-time mindless parkour," Florence Armstrong. I wouldn't dream of missing any of his adventures.

Lady Hardcastle and Flo are celebrating Lady Hardcastle with Lady Bickle who has suggested a play at the Duke's Theatre.

As the curtains open for the second act, they see a man lying on his back with a dagger in his chest, bleeding all over him. Of course, Inspector Sunderland asks Lady H and Flo for help, especially when Inspector Wyatt who is handling the case keeps arresting one of the actors for no good reason.

Flo's twin sister, Gwen, is visiting, and she helps out too. Prima facie it appears that almost anyone could be an assassin.

Both the students would love to take the lead part. When a stage hand is found murdered in a basement room, they realize that he may have seen something during the first murder.

In the midst of all this, at Dog and Duck, they are told that someone is usually out drinking on Thursday nights. Gwen and Flo solve the mystery by wearing identical clothes. The culprit doesn't realize that Flo has a twin, so they think of a way to catch the culprit.

Meanwhile, catching the theater killer is much more difficult. However, when they realize they've got the timeline wrong and at least one of them has lost their excuse! Will they figure it out before either one of them is eliminated?
