Book review:
The story begins with a young girl named Mary who lives in a small village called Marley's Hollow. Her father died when she was only five years old and her mother remarried a man named Jacob Marley.
She had three sisters and two brothers. One day, Jacob Marley came home drunk and beat his wife severely. He then went upstairs and locked himself in their bedroom. When he returned downstairs, he told his family that he would never return. He left them with nothing.
Mary's mother died soon after and she became the head of the household. She took care of her siblings and worked hard to keep herself fed and clothed.
She did not have much money, but she managed to save some coins. She wanted to go to school, but could not afford the tuition fees. So, she decided to work at the local mill where she could earn enough money to pay for her education.
One day, while working at the mill, Mary met Ebenezer Scrooge. He was a miserly old man who lived alone in a big house. His nephew Fred visited him often and brought him gifts.
He loved Christmas time and always gave presents to everyone around him. But, he hated giving anything back to anyone else. He thought that people should just give what they want to others.
After meeting Scrooge, Mary began to think about how she could help others. She started to spend less time thinking about herself and more time helping others. She learned to love Christmas again and even bought gifts for those around her. She started to feel happier and healthier than ever before.
She continued to live in Marley's Hollow and eventually married a man named Bob Cratchit. They had four children together, Tiny Tim, Fezziwig, Jack, and Alice.
In 1866, Scrooge passed away. Afterward, Mary and her husband moved to London. There, they opened a shop selling toys and books. Soon, they were doing well and had saved enough money to move to America. In 1870, they settled down in New York City.
Mary and Bob Cratchit ran the business until 1872. Then, they retired and moved to Washington D.C. where they spent their last days together.
This is my favorite book of all time! I read it over and over again. I recommend it to anyone who loves reading and wants to learn more about Christmas.
