Book review:

The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther  this book follows a girl named meredith usually every single year she spends a week on martha's vineyard with her family like with her parents and her extended family

so everyone goes there for an entire week they spend some time there together and they usually do that every single year however meredith and her parents they haven't been for like a year or two

i think it's closer to two years because meredith's sister claire she actually dies so they're mourning the loss of claire for like a year or two i think it's two years but i'm not 100 sure and so they're mourning her loss and they don't go back to the vineyard for two years however

this summer one of meredith's cousins is getting married on the vineyard so meredith and her parents decide that it's time to go back to martha's vineyard for a week not only for the wedding but also to see their extended family and to spend time with them

when they get to the vineyard they find out that their family still annually plays this game of assassin and in case you're not familiar it's just them assassinating each other with like water guns it's a big water gun fight but you have one target at a time so you're given a card with somebody's name on it and there's a wedding happening right like the family

there's a wedding so there's extended guests and they're already a really big family so you know there's a lot of targets and you know that's really it makes everything more fun because you never know who has you and that just sounds really fun to me this game just sounded really really fun i wanted to participate but anyways you essentially just get a card

you have to assassinate with like a water gun whoever you have on your card and once you assassinate them you get their target and then it just progresses until there's like a select few number of people and then there's just one reigning champion at the end after meredith finds

out about assassin she ends up forming an alliance with one of the groomsmen whose name is wit and this is where kind of like the story starts off a little bit and where the little romance might start off too i'm gonna go into the good and the bad and if i'm gonna recommend this book i'm gonna start with the bad first and then work up to the good the first thing is i read this on my phone so i didn't know about the synopsis or anything

so i didn't know that there was a death in this book and so what i found out i was like oh my gosh this is really sad i wasn't expecting to be like there to be any sadness in this book maybe a little bit of heartbreak you know that happens in y a sometimes i think this is technically a y a book

but you know a little heartbreak or something i wasn't expecting a death and so that was really sad but honestly that's totally my fault for not actually reading the synopsis i just wasn't expecting it to be like that deep i was just expecting a quick fun summer read but you know the fact that there was a death in it was a lot deeper than i was expecting i also found that the main character meredith was sometimes a little bit immature but at the same time

she's 18 years old and she went through something really traumatizing and so i can't blame her for having feelings all over the place and not really knowing how to deal with them but at the same time certain situations the way she dealt with them i thought it could be dealt with a lot better and that's why like she was a little bit immature but at the same time

she kind of learns from it and i can appreciate that let's jump into the good now so the first good thing in my opinion was how grief was depicted the way meredith handled it was different than her parents

but it's also different than the rest of her family members and also it's not something that's at the forefront of this story and like i wouldn't say this is a story about grief this is a summary story that has grief in it and i really love the way that it was handled the whole family aspect of

this book was honestly the best part i love the fact that they had such a huge family and it just seemed like so much fun and i just love that that was my favorite part of this entire book it was just so fun to see them all interact it was really really cool this book

has really good summer vibes and it's definitely a perfect summer read so if you haven't read it yet like this is a perfect time to read it during the summer time well if it's summer where you live it's definitely the perfect time to read it during the summer or when you're missing the summer time.
